Port of Gothenburg is Scandinavia's largest port and is visited by the world's largest ocean-going vessels. For over 400 years, we have been Sweden's logistical hub for international trade and are today an obvious gateway to the world for Swedish imports and exports. Gothenburg Port AB is a municipal company with approximately 180 employees who together work for a sustainable, efficient, and competitive port operation.

We are now looking for a unit manager for the Business Area Cargo unit in the Business Areas & Partner Management department.

About the role

As Head of Business Area Cargo, you will be responsible for and further develop one of the port's most central business areas. The role suits you who want to build on a stable foundation while contributing energy, direction, and business-oriented leadership in a complex and socially important operation.

In this role, you will lead the business areas of containers, RoRo, cars, and railway planning together with six employees. You will report to the Vice President of Business Areas and be a key person in ensuring a well-functioning, sustainable, and commercially strong freight traffic through the Port of Gothenburg.

Main responsibilities

In the role of Head of Business Area Cargo, you will lead and develop the business area in line with Gothenburg Port AB's overall goals and business plan. You will set direction by formulating goals, following up on results, and actively working to achieve those goals. You have overall responsibility for the business area's gross result (revenues and costs) with a long-term planning horizon, as well as for investments, reinvestments, and maintenance in collaboration with relevant functions.

The role also involves:

  • Acting as Partner Manager for existing contractual customers, primarily terminal operators
  • Working to develop the conditions for existing contractual customers' operations
  • Responsible for customer agreements, including concession agreements, as well as follow-up and renewal
  • Leading and coordinating internal collaboration regarding contractual customers at both strategic and operational levels
  • Being the project owner and commissioner for strategic business and development projects
  • Contributing to the development of transport and logistics concepts for long-term and sustainable cargo development across the port
  • Ensuring that the port's development plans match market needs and enable efficient use of existing and planned infrastructure
  • Participating in decisions regarding the location and design of terminals, quays, roads, and railways
  • Having personnel, budget, and work environment responsibility for subordinate employees

Who are we looking for?

For the position, we are looking for someone with a civil engineering background, preferably with a focus on logistics, and who has several years of work experience in logistics, transport, or other related fields. You also have a leadership or project management education. You have worked with the development and management of strategic business relationships, have solid experience in leadership/project management, and a very good understanding of facilities and infrastructure. You communicate freely in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

We are looking for someone with a strategic perspective, who has a strong business understanding and a clear results focus. You have the ability to lead through others in a multifaceted organization. To succeed in this role, we see that you are:

  • Confident in the leadership role and comfortable in new and complex contexts
  • Strong collaboration and cooperation skills
  • Able to see the big picture and translate strategy into practical direction
  • Relationship-building with high integrity

Why Gothenburg Port AB?

We are a stable and secure employer with an important societal role. With us, you get to work closely with competent and engaged colleagues and be part of a team where collaboration and development are in focus.
